Anycom DB1 Review — The Dirt Bike That Can Legally Grow Pedals

“I’ve never seen a dirt bike with a cup holder!”

The Anycom DB1 might just be one of the strangest e-motos I’ve ever tested — in a good way.
At first glance, it looks like a full-on electric dirt bike: red steel frame, big knobby tires, aggressive stance. But then you notice something weird — there’s a spot for pedals.

Yep, the DB1 can transform from a full-blown e-moto into a street-legal e-bike thanks to its included pedal conversion kit. It’s a quirky hybrid concept that blends the looks of a Sur-Ron with the practicality of a Class 2 bike, and honestly, it’s kind of genius

First Impressions

Visually, the DB1 looks fantastic. The red trellis-style frame stands out, wrapping around a massive 48V 28Ah battery that’s partially exposed in the center. The combination of red, white, and black gives it a true off-road aesthetic — kind of like a mini dirt bike straight out of an anime. It reminds me of a naked bike:

It’s not a huge bike — at 5’9″, I could flat-foot it comfortably with knees bent, so it’s perfect for smaller to medium-sized riders. Despite its approachable size, it feels sturdy and balanced, not toy-like.

The blue cup holder on top of the frame adds some charm–and it’s something I have never seen on any dirt bike before!

And yes, that pedal kit really does come in the box. You can remove the foot pegs, mount the included cranks and chain, and turn this e-moto into a “pedal-assist” bike. Legality is questionable, it has a 2000w motor, which is technically over the limit here in America. It’s weird, clever, and surprisingly well thought out.

Motor & Performance

Powering the DB1 is a 2,000W peak mid-drive motor, which sends power through the chain to the rear wheel — no hub motor here. For $1,800, that’s a strong value, since most mid-drive e-motos start well above $2,000.

Performance-wise, it’s tuned to be accessible, not wild. Acceleration is linear and smooth, topping out around 32–34 mph on flat roads, and up to 35 mph downhill.

Anycom reached out to me after filming and informed me that they will be shipping an updated controller in the future. They say this will allow for a higher top speed.

It doesn’t have brutal torque like a Sur-Ron or Talaria, but for beginners or casual riders, it’s the perfect balance. You can twist full throttle without worrying about being thrown off the back — and that’s refreshing.

Hill climbs are modest but manageable, and on trails, the motor feels predictable and easy to control. Think of it as a training bike for future e-moto riders — something to learn balance and throttle feel before upgrading to the heavy hitters.

Ride Quality & Suspension

The DB1’s suspension setup is one of its strongest points. The front fork is a little thin and non-inverted, but it handles light trail bumps just fine. The rear shock is fully adjustable for compression and rebound, letting you fine-tune how plush or firm it rides.

Off-road, the DB1 genuinely shines. It glides over grass, dirt, and uneven trails with ease. The CST knobby tires grip well, and the bike feels agile and balanced through corners.

Even on pavement, the handling is stable and predictable — helped by the bike’s low center of gravity and well-placed battery weight. You can lean it confidently, and it never feels twitchy.

Just don’t expect it to replace a full-size dirt bike — the power’s modest, and those knobbies hum loud on asphalt.

Pros

  • Unique mid-drive design with pedal conversion
  • Excellent suspension and braking performance
  • Great beginner-friendly throttle tuning
  • Stable handling and balanced weight distribution
  • Stylish red frame and dirt bike looks
  • Strong value for a mid-drive e-moto

Cons

  • Throttle sticks slightly (no real cruise control)
  • Moderate power compared to hub motor e-motos
  • Battery isn’t easy to remove
  • Visible wiring and tedious assembly

Brakes & Controls

The DOT hydraulic brakes are phenomenal — easily one of the standout components here. They feel strong, consistent, and even overkill for what the DB1 can do. Honestly, they’re better than what many faster e-motos include.

There’s even a left-hand rear brake, making it wheelie-friendly for those who want to practice.
The cockpit is clean and functional, with a full twist throttle, a loud horn, a simple LCD display, and a keyed ignition.

One weird quirk: the throttle tends to stick slightly, acting like “accidental cruise control” — a mechanical issue Anycom should probably address.

Battery & Range

The DB1’s 48V 28Ah battery is beefy, giving it a claimed range of 40–50 miles, depending on riding style. Realistically, you’ll probably see 25–35 miles of spirited riding or off-road use.

The battery is technically removable but not quick-swap friendly — it’s bolted in under a cover, so plan to charge it in place.

Because it’s limited in power, the bike sips energy. After 6–7 miles of mixed riding, I barely dropped a single bar.

Verdict: Weird, Cool, and Worth a Look

The Anycom DB1 is one of the most original e-motos I’ve tested — and that’s saying something. It’s part dirt bike, part e-bike, and somehow manages to be both fun and practical.

It’s not the fastest, and it won’t blow away mid-drive veterans. But for under $2,000, it delivers real off-road capability, great suspension, and excellent brakes — with a side of weird charm.

If you’re a beginner or want something unique you can legally pedal around town, the DB1 is absolutely worth checking out.
Just don’t expect perfection — expect personality.
