Big batteries, Big value
I’ll start this review by removing the elephant in the room… The Hovsco HovGTRS isn’t going to do 150 miles of range. Even with dual 48v batteries, you won’t be getting near that range unless you’re pedaling along at 8mph. And I can’t think of a WORSE fate that having to pedal a bike like this 150 miles at a pace barely faster than walking. Seriously, just waterboard me.
BUT underneath the sky high claimed range numbers is a great moped style e-bike, that Hovsco offers at a great value; just $1,109 with our discount code AMPED (as of Dec 2025).
So, In a crowded world of moped style bikes, does the HovGTRS Ultra do enough to stand out? Lets find out!

What Stands Out
Mag wheels & full lighting: Cast rims, headlight, brake light, and rear turn signals (no front signals).
Serious capacity: Dual batteries — 48V 15Ah up top + 48V 25Ah down low — for a combined 40Ah (that’s a lot of watt-hours for this class). You can run either pack alone or both together via the bike’s battery blender.
Comfortable moped stance: Plush ribbed seat, relaxed posture, passenger pegs, and a frame that feels planted on city streets and paths.

Motor & Speed: “Average” Is the Right Word
Hovsco rates the rear hub at 1,500W peak with a claimed 32 mph top speed. In testing, the Ultra topped out around ~28 mph on flat ground; acceleration was average and it failed our hill climb test. On the hill climb, as soon as it hit the first bit of incline, it felt like it flat out gave up and said “nope, not even trying that”. More commuter than sprinter. The brand’s phone app (which may unlock more speed) didn’t cooperate during testing.
.
Pros
- Massive 40Ah capacity; practical long-range riding
- Comfortable, stable moped ergonomics; passenger-ready
- Strong hydraulic brakes; mag wheels look/feel premium
- Good value at $1,109
Cons
- Average performance for a “1500W” rating (speed/torque)
- Rear suspension feels firm on big bumps
- Rear-only turn signals; app reliability issues
Ride & Handling
On pavement, the bike rides like a friendly mini-moto — easy, stable, confidence-inspiring. Off-road, the non-adjustable fork and firm twin rear shocks keep things tidy on mild paths but can feel harsh on bigger bumps. The 20×4 knobbies add grip on grass and gravel, but they hum on asphalt (as all knobbies do). Braking performance is a bright spot: hydraulic discs with 180 mm rotors provide strong, predictable stops.
Range Reality Check
As alluded to in the introduction, the claimed range is out of touch for only the most dedicated hyper-milers, which I am not. I like to use the throttle and go as fast as possible, so I can expect much less range on my rides. We went over 25 miles on our test ride, and the battery gauge still had 3-4 bars, suggesting excellent practical range for commuters and long errand loops. I can see this bike getting a genuine 50+ miles of range on throttle, which still is very impressive, not just for the price, but for an e-bike in general.
Verdict
If you measure value in miles per charge and day-to-day comfort, the HovGTRS Ultra is a winner. It won’t wow speed junkies, but it goes far, rides easy, carries two, and — with your AMPED discount — lands at a price that’s hard to argue with. It’s the long-legged cruiser of budget moped-style e-bikes: not the fastest, but a fantastic distance-for-dollars machine.
