Mokwheel Obsidian ST Review: The Solar-Powered E-Bike That Does It All

Mokwheel is a name you may have heard before in the E-Bike world. They are a relatively well known brand and have some bikes that have genuinely innovative features.

The Obsidian ST is the step through version of their popular Obsidian model, and retains basically all the same features, in a step through form factor.

This premium bike promises good power, plenty of range, and even the ability to connect an inverter (which Mokwheel sells separately) which allows you to not only run devices and appliances off of the battery of the bike, but also charge the bike with solar power when traveling off the grid.

The retail on the Obsidian is currently $2199 ($50 off if you use code JKMW50 here). Is the Obsidian worth its premium price? Lets find out!

Performance Review

Power & Speed

The 1300W motor is no joke—this thing launches when you hit the throttle. On flat pavement, it easily hits 30 mph (unlocked), and even uphill, it maintains 18-20 mph without breaking a sweat. The torque sensor makes pedaling feel natural, not jerky like cheaper cadence-sensor bikes.

Ride Comfort

The DNM air shock is the star here. Off-road bumps? Gone. Potholes? Absorbed. It’s like riding on a memory foam cloud (if that cloud could also hit 30 mph). The step-through frame makes mounting a breeze, and the upright riding position is ergonomic for long rides.

Solar Charging?

The Obsidian ST has a built-in inverter port (sold separately). If you’re camping or off-grid, this is a game-changer—imagine charging your e-bike while hiking! That said, most riders won’t utilize it, but it’s a cool bonus for adventurers.

Braking & Handling

The Tektro hydraulic brakes are crisp and responsive, even at high speeds. The fat tires add stability, though they’re not true off-road knobbies—think light trails, not mountain biking.

Styling

The Obsidian ST is a stylish looking bike. I personally prefer the mid-step look of the regular obsidian (if it was my money I would buy the mid-step for the looks), but the step through design is nice for those who want an easier time getting on the bike, and for those with mobility issues.

It also comes in 3 color options: Black and red, blue + silver, and camo.

Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • Smooth, powerful ride (thanks to torque + cadence sensors).
  • Full suspension = zero back pain.
  • Solar charging option (unique at this price).
  • Step-through frame = easy access for all riders.

👎 Cons

  • No built-in taillight (a $2,200 bike should have one).
  • Seat could be softer (a cheap upgrade, but still).
  • Solar kit is pricey on it’s own ($599 extra).

Who Is This Bike For?

  • Commuters who want a fast, comfortable ride.
  • Light off-road explorers (gravel paths, packed dirt).
  • Preppers/adventurers who love the solar charging option.
  • Riders with mobility concerns (thanks to the step-through frame).

Final Verdict: Worth the $2,200?

The Mokwheel Obsidian ST is a premium e-bike with few compromises. It’s fast, smooth, and packed with smart features—especially if you opt for the solar kit. The lack of a built-in taillight is annoying, but not a dealbreaker.

If you want a do-it-all e-bike that can handle city streets, light trails, and even off-grid adventures, this is a top-tier pick!
