TST R002 – Fax Machine Name, Affordable & Powerful E-Bike That Can Carry 2 (or 3)

If you’re shopping for an affordable E-Bike and thinking to your self “Hmm I really want a moped style E-Bike, but I want something thats named after a fax machine, then I have the bike for you!

The TST R002 may be named like a 1990’s fax machine, but the performance is no joke!

It comes with a powerful 1500w hub motor, 48v 15ah battery, and a big seat with an extension that easily fits two. You can even use the rear seat as a storage rack if you need more practicality.

And at $900 (with our $100 discount code AMPED at checkout on TST’s website), hydraulic brakes, and dual suspension, this bike seems like a great contender for a value e-bike under $1000.

The sub 1000 dollar segment is extremely competitive these days, so how does the R002 stack up against the competition? Lets find out!

Our latest videos on the TST R002

Right out of the box, the R002 feels surprisingly well-equipped for its price:

  • 1500W hub motor (750W nominal, because legalities)
  • 48V 15.6Ah battery (720Wh—enough juice for a decent joyride)
  • Full suspension (though the rear shock might need an upgrade)
  • Hydraulic brakes (unexpectedly good for a budget bike)
  • 7-speed Shimano gears (because sometimes you wanna pedal… or at least pretend to).

The included padded passenger seat is a nice touch, though it’s more “Lamborghini-inspired” than “Lamborghini-quality.” Still, for under $1,000, we’re not complaining.

Riding Experience: City Slicker or Off-Road Rebel?

On Pavement:
This bike shines on city streets. The thumb throttle (left-side, oddly) is responsive, and the 28 mph top speed feels zippy—though hitting 32 mph might require a tailwind and a prayer. The turn signals (activated by double-tapping +/- buttons) are clever but way too easy to trigger accidentally.

Off-Road:
The R002 handles light trails like a tipsy mountain goat—it’ll do it, but don’t expect grace. The suspension is stiff (budget shock woes), and the knobby tires are more for show than serious dirt. Still, it’s fun to pretend you’re in a Mad Max sequel.

Passenger Perks:
The rear seat is comfy enough for short trips, though your passenger might demand a better shock after mile 10. And yes, it wheelies if you sit back—proof that 1500W can still bring the giggles.

Quirks and Cons

  • The App: “Orbital Sports” sounds cool but does little beyond basic stats. Skip it.
  • Pedaling: Cadence sensor = all-or-nothing power. Also, moped seats + pedaling = thigh torture.
  • Suspension: Upgrade the rear shock unless you enjoy feeling every pebble.
  • Battery Life: Real-world range is closer to 25-30 miles (less with a passenger).

Styling and suspension:

If you looked up “moped electric bicycle” in the dictionary, a picture of the R002 would pop up. The styling is generic, but it functions just fine. You won’t stand out in a sea of other black e-bikes, but you’ll certainly have fun – with a passenger too!

Suspension is pretty firm – Fine for city roads and trails, but once you get off road things get a little rough unfortunately.

Final Verdict: A Steal with Caveats

The TST R002 is the fast-food combo meal of e-bikes—cheap, satisfying, and not technically gourmet. For under $1,000, you get:
✅ A peppy 1500W motor
✅ Two seats (romance and groceries)
✅ Surprisingly great brakes

Just don’t expect luxury. Swap the rear shock, ignore the app, and this little moped will happily chug along—whether you’re dodging traffic or your responsibilities.
